5 Anti-Aging Tips

January 27, 2017

As I inch towards my mid thirties, the beauty topic that catches my eye the most these days is anything relating to aging. A gray hair here or a wrinkle there starts to make a girl wonder if she’s doing everything possible to keep her skin and health in check. I’m not going to lie, I was a beach bum for a good chunk of my life and had the tan (and bikini collection) to prove it. The last thing I was worrying about was protecting my skin. So what am I doing differently now, a decade later? Here are 5 things I’ve implemented into my routine—including a little jar of magic from Neutrogena that you must try.

1. Diet. The obvious factor when it comes to our health and skin yet also the hardest to change. Eating a balanced diet full of whole foods, vegetables, healthy grains, good fats and proteins will no doubt keep you feeling and looking healthy. I instantly break out or get dry skin after binge eating sugar or drinking too much caffeine/alcohol. My suggestion, keep your expectations at bay. Everyday won’t be perfect but opt for the healthy option when you can, take a daily vitamin and stock your pantry with only good stuff. 2. Water. Todd is always bugging me to drink more water, and he’s right. I’m horrible at keeping up on my hydration, so much so I get headaches too frequently. But when I make sure to have a water bottle filled up next to me all day, I immediately notice the difference after a few days. My normally “dry” skin gets a healthy glow and feels younger. 3. Wrinkle Control. So what about the wrinkles that you are dealing with now? I have a little tip that can bring you results in just a week. Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Regenerating Cream is a rich moisturizing creme that you use twice a day over your face and neck. It plumps and smoothes with hyaluronic acid and Accelerated Retinol so fine lines (even those crows feet) fade away. My favorite part is that the price ($27) is super reasonable given the results that you’ll get. After testing this out for a week I was really surprised at how my overall complexion was smooth but also bright, glowing and hydrated. 4. An Early Bedtime. I’ve read and heard that an hour before midnight is worth two hours after midnight. When we go to sleep overtired, the detox and revitalizing process that our bodies naturally do doesn’t function as well. So we wake up feeling (and looking) a little less refreshed. There is a hormone that our bodies release while we sleep that rebuilds old, damaged cells so making sure you get plenty of shut eye is key. 5. Laugh. I don’t know about you, but I feel younger whenever I have a good laugh. Life can wind us up pretty quickly, which can make those frown lines a little deeper. Keeping a lighthearted outlook on things and remembering to smile will take a year, or two off. Photography by Arna Bee // Thank you to Neutrogena for supporting this post.
