Beauty Bag

September 11, 2014

September BeautyEvery season, just like my wardrobe, my make up bag seems to require a little refreshing. The month of September I’m especially reminded of this because my skin notoriously goes dry and dull sending me into a tail spin to get my glow back. I end up trying a handful of different products and an embarrassing bathroom drawer that’s overflowing. To my defense, I never fail at finding that perfect remedy. So I’m letting my product junkie side take over with a new series, Beauty Bag, where I’ll be sharing my monthly favorites and miracle finds that keep me feeling radiant from head to my toe. Without further adieu, September’s arsenal of must-haves.

September BeautyMoisturize, moisturize and moisturize. That’s the name of the game for me every year as Summer fades away. I started using African Botanic’s Marula Botanical Body Cream recently when I noticed that dry feeling creep up and it’s worked like a charm. Each night I’ve been putting it all over my body before getting into bed and in the morning my skin is amazingly dewy. Nothing drives me crazier than dry, rough hands. I bought this Aesop hand balm a while back and completely forgot about it after I couldn’t find it anywhere. I loaded up on some recently and can’t get enough of the smell, thickness and non-greasy feeling that soaks in quickly. September BeautyYou’ll quickly find out that concealer is something I’m always on the hunt for. I get those pesky dark circles under my eyes that make me look tired, which I can’t stand. So anything to brighten, smooth and even out my skin tone I love to try out. I was recently turned on to Kevin Aucoin’s line of cosmetics and came across the Sensual Skin Enhancer—a small pot of thick concealer that you can blend pretty much anywhere on your face. A tiny bit goes a long way so I don’t think I’ll be needing a new pot for a long time (you get a lot of bang for your buck). There’s over 15 colors to choose from so chances are there’s an exact color for almost everyone. Another Kevin Aucoin find I’ve been devouring is The Primed Skin Developer. A make up artist once told me that primers are key for getting that smooth, flawless skin look especially if you have dryer skin.
September BeautyI used to avoid the Chanel makeup counter because I thought it was just Ok products with pretty packaging and a hefty price tag. I should have known better, the luxury brand really is amazing in all forms. I first tried the mascara a while ago, which I loved but still wasn’t convinced on the whole line. But when a friend raved about the Correcteur Perfection, a brightening concealer, I had to try it. I was amazed at how well it worked but also how smooth it went on and stayed on without doing any weird clumping. After that I went back for two more products that I had heard great things about: Les Beiges Healthy Glow Powder and Les Beiges Healthy Glow Fluid. The combination of the two gives the perfect amount of coverage and glow without looking too made up. And each on their own is just as amazing. And then there’s that packaging…
