This week I’ve been hitting the pavement in New York for fashion week soaking in loads of inspiration from the streets to the shows. And while I do love being a spectator when the models float down the runway I also love seeing the nitty gritty behind-the-scenes. I had the chance to get a sneak peek at the hair/makeup backstage at a couple shows and came away with some amazing tips and tools that the pros use. The one thing I noticed was a common trend of illuminating the skin and catching the light in creative ways. Which, I already happen to be slightly obsessed with thanks to some new Laura Mercier products. Here are some ways I’ve been getting a romantic illuminating glow and some tips from the runways.  This palette is pure romance in a compact. I’ve been applying both the highlighting powders on my cheekbones, forehead and chest a bit. It picks up the light in the softest most perfect way. I’ve found that a defined eye is the perfect complement to subtle steamy glow. I always smudge it up a bit for a more relaxed vibe. Getting that perfect smudged eye-liner look is no easy task. But finding the right eye liner with the right texture is the trick. The Kajal D’Orient one is the best I’ve come across. Smudges easily and and is almost velvety so it glides on easily. Here’s a NYFW tip I recently picked up. Add a touch of lip gloss to cheekbones and a dot on the eyelid for “wet” look. I’ve already been experimenting with Lip Glace in Bronze Gold Accent. Highlighting just under the arch of the brow. You can also mix a teensy bit of these colors with a touch of water and dab them onto the lip for a super subtle illumination.
