How To Style Your Skirts For Winter

January 18, 2017

ciht_120616_187Does anyone else have a mom that’s always trying to hand them another layer before walking out the door? “Honey you’re not dressed warm enough,” is what I have heard for 30+ years of my life—she’s always looking out for me. Mom, if you’re reading this you might want to grab a cozy throw blanket.

I’ve been wearing skirts lately and not just on 75º California “winter days.” I’m talking cold, cloudy and possible rain on the horizon—GASP. But here’s what I’ve discovered about sporting a skirt on a cold day. First and foremost bundle up on top. I’ve been pairing graphic sweaters with a favorite leather jacket and topping it all off with a giant scarf if it’s super cold. The other element to keep in mind, how much skin you’re baring. If its a short skirt, consider an over-the-knee boot (seen here). I’ve been all about the midi-length skirts as they feel a teensy bit more casual and go with my collection of short ankle-high boots. And here’s where skirts lend a whole new dimension to layering—coat length. I’ve been loving opposites, a short skirt with a long coat or a cropped coat with a long skirt.

So you see mom, you can wear skirts in winter.
