Believe it or not, I’m not the proud owner of a walk-in closet. In fact, it’s what I daydream about having down the road—le sigh. But until then, I find ways to make my tuna-can of a closet work for me, which means switching out seasonal pieces and storing them in my “garage closet”. So that’s exactly what I did over the weekend and while I unpacked some pieces I hadn’t touched since February/March, I was reminded of the classic Fall essentials you can’t go wrong with. And I’m not kidding when I say some of these pieces I’ve worn every Fall for the past 3-4 years. Trends come and go but these staples will always have a place in my wardrobe.
Helmut Lang Leather Pants
I bought these pants 3+ years ago and can easily say they were the best investment, worth every penny. I even wore them through the first 6 months of my pregnancy because the waist is a stretchy band. I style them with sneakers or dressed up with heels and every time I feel like the coolest cat on the block. And you know they’re good when the brand keeps making them year after year. Oversized Crewneck Sweaters
Fall is one of my favorite seasons for the very reason that you can get creative with layering. I have found that basic crewneck sweaters are the best for this. Whether it’s thrown on over a slip dress, on top of a collared shirt or under a statement coat, you’re bound to rely on a solid black or navy one. A Classic Camel Coat
No doubt this is the most timeless piece you could invest in. Every year I’ve come across one that I love and wind up adding to the collection. While it’s a sophisticated coat to dress up, I love it equally as much worn with ripped up jeans, sneakers and a tee—the outdoor robe on the way to coffee, trust me it comes in handy.
The Timeless Black Bag
This Celine bag has been with me for two years now and proved to be another investment I’ll never regret. I wear it all-the-time and love how simple yet cool it is. Plus the cross body style that converts into a clutch makes it super versatile.
Autumn Florals
I love adding a feminine floral with earthy shades to the Fall mix. It feels oh so Indian Summer, which I absolutely love. Plus, I have a growing collection of billowy Dôen favorites that I practically live in.
School Girl Peacoat
Nothings feels more like fall to me than an iconic blue peacoat. It’s no doubt the most timeless choice for a winter coat that you could possibly pick up. I’ve worn and loved this Isabel Marant one for two years now and I’m giddy to pull it out again. The slightly modern shape gives it a cool, almost rocker-like vibe. I won’t be parting with this one… ever. I do however have my eye on a fun take on the classic, how good is this Ralph Lauren Wool Peacoat?
