Lately I’ve been wearing nothing but button-down shirt dresses. This has been the hottest month so far so I’ve been opting for easy pieces that are classic and easy to lounge and drink lemonade in—who’s with me? It’s made me appreciate how classic and essential they are in our wardrobes. Especially since I wind up wearing them year-round here in California. In the Fall they’re perfect with a cool leather jacket or layered with a chunky knit and in the Summer they’re the most versatile since they double as swim cover-ups.

Another reason why I love having a basic shirt dress in my closet is because it sets the stage to play around with different accessories, layered or bold jewelry and can easily be dressed up or down with shoes. And you can literally pull of just about any style footwear with a basic white shirt dress, which is probably why I have 4 in my wardrobe! Some favorites I own and a few others I have my eye on below.
